Ansellia africana

Ansellia africana
This is a medium to giant orchid from central Africa growing from 2000 feet to 7000 feet of elevation over a broad spectrum of growing conditions. The plants form an unusual, densely matted clump of upward growing roots. The flowers can be very variable and have a pleasing scent. Our offerings are 2 feet tall at maturity and have 2 ½ inch, chocolate brown flowers with some yellow barring. When in bloom they are quite a show with each growth having multiple spikes of 15+ flowers. They are easily grown with intermediate temperatures, partial shade and no winter rest. Our plants are mature, blooming size with a minimum of 5 bulbs.
